Port Go Down 30-16 Away

Mark Davies17 Oct 2011 - 21:20

Port continued to struggle with their away form once again this season at Dukinfield.

Port for once at an away game actually started from the first whistle, not the most solid of starts as their early tackling was poor through the centre. However territorially Port were dominant, they just failed to capitalise on the position. 5 mintes in Dukinfield broke the defence and raced away almost the length of the pitch to score their first try, and on 10 minutes they added a penalty to make it 10-0 to the home side.
The territorial advantage stayed with Port but with Dukinfield always looking dangerous and with their No7 breaking tackles regularly. Port missed the hard working Jim Shinton in this area. From another Dukinfield break on 27 minutes a line out was set up and the resultant catch and drive saw the home side extend their lead to 15 points. Just before the half time whistle fly half Chris Carbutt slotted a penalty goal for Port to reduce the deficit a little. Half time score Dukinfield 15 - Port 3.
port started the secomd half looking like a more threatening team, first another penalty from Carbutt, a tactical switch bringing winger Rob Finlay into Sscrum half and moving Jim Hawkins out to the wing paid dividends 10 minutes in as the quick ball allowed Carbutt to send a flat pass to centre Pete Doyle who burst the line and raced round the Dukinfield full back to dot down under the posts. Carbutt adding the extras to make it 15-13 and Port hopes were raised. The half continued in the same vane as the first with Port having the best of the territory but Dukinfield always clearing lines or breaking downfield.
These breaks and Ports poor tackling led to a further three unconverted tries for Dukinfield through the second half, with the last coming in the final minutes to end the game Dukinfield 30 - Port 16.
The Rees Developments man of the match went to centre Pete Doyle.
