Lessons Learnt by All

Today our boys took the long drive out to Orrel to play 2 games, 1 against Orrel and 1 against Wigan.

In the first game our boys kicked off the game against Orrel and took an early lead and looked like they would easily win and dominate the game. However us switching off and bunching up left space for the Hosts to come back into the game. The second half commenced and the boys had switched off completely and their heads were down due to some poor refereeing decisions, allowing Orrel to dominate the 2nd half with missed tackles and no aggression. half way into the 2nd half it was decided after a brief discussion, that due to the ref not knowing the full laws applicable, that the Ref would be changed for the remainder. The game commenced and with the new clarity on the laws the Oilers started to make a comeback but it was too little too late.
Our second game against Wigan was a clean slate. With refereeing sorted and clear, the game kicked off. But we could see that the first game had taken its toll on morale and Wigan brushed us aside with ease. The boys tried and showed a bit of heart towards the end on the first half, winning the rucks and having a good spell, but the second half continued much the same and Wigan dominated play and walked through the game. The first game could of had a very different outcome, should 1 or 2 simple things been changed, but we were simply out classed by Wigan.
However we should not be to down as the area both these teams are from take rugby far more seriously than they do in ours. The schools in the area are far more versed in it than our local schools. So we have areas to work on, but we know what and it isn't an impossible task. we have a run of home games coming up over then next few weeks, so we will dust oursleves off, pick up our pride and go again next week.
