A tough day at the office

Today our U 12s travelled to our old foe Chester. To say our day didn't go as planned would be an understatement. We arrived earlier than usual at the request of Chester, but we were struggling for numbers. We managed to field the exact number required(9) to play a game.
The boys seemed down as they realised they would be up against it, as they would all have to play all the games against 3 different Chester teams with us having no subs.
The first game against Chesters 1st team didn't go great for the Oilers, lots of missed tackles and poor team work saw our boys take a demoralising 9-1 defeat. Chester didn't have anything special, but our boys had defeated themselves mentally.
With heads down the boys took to the pitch for the second game, but after an early start where we went ahead, Chester again came back at the oilers and took the lead, with some great running and discipline in the passing. the 2nd game finished 5-2 to Chester. But the Boys had improved and had started to get it together at the end of the game.
The third and final game against the next Chester team saw the Oilers Gel and start to put the work in that had been missing throughout the other games. The contrast in play and teamwork for the Oilers that played the first game to the Oilers that played the last game, was night and day. We won the Rucks and made the tackles, matching Chester physically and mentally. Towards the end of the game the fatigue of playing 3 different teams started to show, but the boys managed to see the game out with a 4-3 win.

Today showed that if we play our game and don't worry about the opposition we can cause upsets against bigger clubs. We were under no illusions that today would be an easy day, but perhaps found it harder than we expected.
My own personal goal for the team today wasn't anything to do with the score. Our main goal today was that we turned up and played as a team and we kept our discipline. If we can get our teamwork going we can beat anyone. We showed that today, the first 2 games our discipline was good but our teamwork wasn't. The last game our discipline stayed and we worked together and brought home a W.

A special mention to Josh SJ and Max M today they both played really well and were both in discussion for MOM. However this week it again goes to Josh A, his hard attack was matched by his determined defence today, so again well done Josh.
Our TREDS award this week goes to Callum. he has played well today but more importantly has managed to keep his head and see out the game on the pitch, despite a few high tackles against him, he rose above it and played well and fairly. Well Done Cal.

Well done to everyone, We take today as a lesson, and we know where we can improve, we will be back stronger for next time, hopefully with a few subs. We need to start growing the team so we can put up more of a fight. so lets get the boys dragging mates down from school.
